Things to know about Aquamarine Jewelry
By gorfor
Aquamarine is strongly related to emerald as they are both beryl. When the beryl contains chromium and is green is called emerald when it contains traces of iron its colour is blue/blue-green and is called aquamarine. Aquamarine is often found in large crystals quite often fairly flawless. Aquamarine is found in Russia, Brazil, Pakistan and some places in the USA.
Most aquamarine will be a nice light blue although the darker the colour the more valuable it is, some of the best aquamarine often comes from Pakistan. Given the colour the name aquamarine means sea water.
Aquamarine was said to have healing properties, as most gemstones, it is supposed to heal eye disease, improve intelligence and concentration and help couples to solve their marital problems. It is the birthstone for those born in March.
As it is their birthstone if you want to buy a present that will be cherished for a long time to someone born in March, aquamarine is the perfect idea. But aquamarine is not only appreciated for its talismanic properties. Aquamarine, given its wonderful blue colour similar to that of the sea, looks equally good in silver and gold as both enhance its tone. Aquamarine is also a good gemstone to consider for an engagement ring and it is also the gemstone for the 16the wedding anniversary. Often aquamarine accompanies diamonds in engagement rings to provide a nice and impressive contrast. As usual when you buy a gemstone you will have to look at the 4 Cs; carat (size), colour, cut and clarity. In the case of aquamarine the colour, as we have mentioned, will be more sought after the deeper and darker it is.
Aquamarine is supposed to be transparent therefore you should be able to see nearly all the way through, it is after all a natural crystal. The perfect cut will depend very much on the stone, a good cut is meant to place emphasis on the good points of the stone but it will also depend a lot on the personal taste and the type of jewellery. The best cut for a pendant might not be the same for a brooch. As usual when buying jewelry, whether you choose to do it online or not, always go to a reputable store to avoid paying over the odds for poor quality of fake pieces.
